A Day at the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a shallow channel between Comino and the islet of Cominotto, famous for water so clear and turquoise it looks lit from below. It is consistently ranked among the best swimming spots in Europe — and it is the number-one reason people visit Comino.

Arriving by boat in the morning means you get the lagoon at its best: calmer water, easier spots on the rocks and sand, and the famous colours at full strength as the sun climbs. Bring swimwear, sunscreen and a towel; in summer, kiosks at the lagoon sell drinks and snacks.

Comino itself is almost uninhabited — beyond the lagoon you can walk to Santa Marija Bay, explore the old watchtower, or simply claim a spot on the rocks and swim until the boat home.

Comino & Blue Lagoon — FAQ

Do I need a permit to enter Comino island?

Yes — the Maltese government requires a mandatory entry pass (QR code) for Comino island. It is not included in our boat trip and we cannot sell it: you must get it yourself at https://blcomino.com/product/blue-lagoon/ before the trip and bring the QR on your phone.

How do I get to the Blue Lagoon in Malta?

The Blue Lagoon is on Comino, a small island between Malta and Gozo, so you can only reach it by boat. Our full-day trip departs from St Julian's daily at 10:00 — the simplest option if you're staying in the St Julian's/Sliema area, with return transfer included for €30 per person.

How long do we stay at the Blue Lagoon?

The whole day. Departure is at 10:00 from St Julian's and the return is in the late afternoon (around 17:00) — roughly six hours on Comino, far longer than the brief stop most multi-island cruises make.

Do I pay anything on the day?

No. This trip is paid 100% online at the time of booking (€30 per person + 10% management fee). Your booking confirmation arrives instantly and your tickets are sent by email or WhatsApp before the trip.

Can I book for the same day?

No — bookings close at midnight (00:00) the day before the trip, and there is a maximum of 30 guests per day, so we recommend booking a few days ahead in July and August.

Is the trip suitable for children?

Yes, all ages are welcome. The Blue Lagoon's shallow, sheltered water makes it one of the most family-friendly swimming spots in Malta. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water. Snorkelling gear is worth bringing if you have it — the visibility in the lagoon is exceptional. In summer, kiosks at the lagoon sell drinks and snacks.
