Private Boat Hire in Malta for Groups & Celebrations
Malta is small enough that the sea is never more than twenty minutes away, which is why so many groups end up celebrating on a boat rather than in a restaurant. A private charter takes 14 to 45 people, the price is for the whole boat, and nobody has to organise transport between venues.
This is how to pick the right boat for the size and mood of your group, and what the day actually costs once you split it.
Cost per person once you split the boat
The number that surprises people is the per-head figure. These are full-day charters, skipper and fuel included, divided by a full boat:

Which boat suits which celebration
- β’Birthdays and family days: either 14-guest catamaran, calm and easy with kids on board
- β’Hen and stag groups: the Lagoon 450 has a generator so you can plug in DJ equipment
- β’Big parties: the 45-guest party catamaran, with a large deck, sundeck, fridge, toilet and shower
- β’Company days out: the Bali 4.0 is the quiet one β four cabins, a private upper sundeck, and no amplified music on board
- β’Couples and small groups: the sailing yacht, the cheapest way to have a boat to yourselves
Food and drink on board
You can bring your own food and drinks β plenty of groups do. If you would rather have it handled, catering is prepared for the day and added when you book: a barbecue at β¬52 per person, sharing platters at β¬78 for four, a buffet at β¬78 per person or a vegan menu at β¬71.50, with a one-off β¬130 chef fee on the buffet and vegan options.
Getting everyone to the boat
Charters leave from Roland Marina in Ta' Xbiex or from Sliema. If your group is staying in the north, pick-up and drop-off can be added: β¬130 from Bugibba or St Paul's Bay, β¬260 from MellieΔ§a or Gozo. The departure time is brought forward so you still get the full day on the water.
Booking a group charter
Pick the boat and date, add your extras and pay part of the price online to hold the boat; the rest is settled on the day. If the weather cancels the charter, that payment comes back in full or moves to another date.
One boat can only take one group per day, so summer weekends go early β if you have a fixed date, book it before you finalise anything else.
