Malta National Aquarium: what to see, prices and tips

The Malta National Aquarium is in Qawra, St Paul's Bay, in the north of the island, inside a starfish-shaped building on the seafront. It's Malta's go-to plan for a windy or rainy day, and the one that works best with children.

Here's what you'll see, what the ticket includes, how long you need and how to get there, with the operator's real details.

What you'll see

  • •51 display tanks and more than 250 species: fish from the Mediterranean and far-off seas, freshwater and saltwater, jellyfish, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
  • •The walk-through tunnel under the main tank, with fish passing over your head: the star of the visit.
  • •Themed exhibits following milestones in Malta's history; each tank recreates the natural habitat of its species.
  • •Educational talks on marine conservation and the threats to the local seabed (check the times on the day).

Ticket and what it includes

The ticket (from €17 per person) is valid for one day and comes as a digital ticket: it arrives on your phone immediately and doesn't need printing. It includes skip-the-line entry through a separate access. It doesn't include transfers or food and drink. Inside, no flash photography, pets or alcohol.

How long you need

Allow one to two hours for the full route, and a little more if you catch a talk. As the ticket is valid all day, you can combine it with a walk along the Qawra and Buġibba promenade next door, or the beach in summer.

How to get there

Qawra is in St Paul's Bay, in the north of Malta, well connected by bus with Sliema, St Julian's and Valletta. The starfish-shaped building on the seafront is easy to spot from afar.

How to book

The “Book now” button opens our partner's booking page in a new tab. You can reserve now and pay later, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and the digital ticket arrives on your phone instantly. If the weather plays along, pair the aquarium with Popeye Village or Mdina on the other days.
